24 May 2017 Hall of Fame Recipient Nancy Gray

Words cannot express what an honor it was to receive the CAFAA Hall of Fame Award at this year’s annual conference. I want to thank you, the CAFAA Board, and the entire membership for honoring me this way.
I love working in financial aid and am so thankful I found my “niche” back in 1988 when I became the Pell Grant Coordinator at UNC as a graduate student. Mike Maestas hired me as a full-time counselor in 1991, I advanced to Assistant Director in charge of scholarships in 1997, and here I am 26 years later as the Financial Aid Director at Aims Community College and still loving what I do.
Financial aid is a “team” sport. We have to work collaboratively within each of our offices to get the job done. More than that, we have an awesome network of peers in our state, our region, and on a national level that we can reach out to for advice, ideas, and support. Financial Aid professionals ROCK!!!
Again, I am very grateful for the award and humbled to be part of a special group of recipients.
