Community College of Denver is seeking a Financial Aid Advisor/Verification Coordinator

Job Description

The Verification Coordinator maintains expert knowledge of federal, state and institutional policies regarding all types of financial aid (i.e., Pell Grant, Colorado Student Grant, Stafford loans, etc.). This individual resolves data integrity issues and discrepancies within the system independently. This position involves the financial aid verification process. An in-depth understanding of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and required documentation is necessary. This individual identifies and resolves issues with conflicting information between documents and the FAFSA. They package financial aid awards based on needs-analysis, federal regulations, cost of attendance, and institutional budgets. This individual also processes all incoming ISIRs. This position requires face-to face contact with a diverse population of students and advises both students and parents of the various aspects of financial aid (i.e., application procedures, verification documentation, scholarship and grant guidelines, federal and private loan conditions, Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements, etc.). The Verification Coordinator is responsible for handling discrepancies in federal student aid eligibility, including C-flags, rejected ISIRs, comment codes, rejects and other issues related to ISIR and CPS processing. This position does a great deal of independent investigation and resolution of student or application issues. This is a high stress position which requires a mastery of complex regulations, meeting process goals and reporting progress to the supervisor. The Verification Coordinator job duties include:

Manages student aid eligibility issues, reporting and verification processes:

  • Analyze federal and state documentation and verification worksheets.
  • Evaluate original FAFSA application to resolve conflicting information.
  • Coordinate requests for additional information from students.
  • Maintain current written CCD procedures.
  • Report weekly statistics to Associate Director of Financial Aid Operations.
  • Process ISIR corrections.
  • Serve on the Professional Judgment Committee.
  • Process Income Adjustment Appeals
  • Monitor and resolve issues with discrepancy reports
  • Investigate potential fraud and fraud referrals



Processes ISIRs:

  • Resolve C-flag, rejects and comment code.
  • Coordinate data load processes, including batch posting and suspense files.



Advising Students:

  • Assist students and parents with application and eligibility requirements.
  • Provides exceptional customer service in-person or via email/phone.



Banner Usage:

  • Run daily reports for ready-for-review, C-flags, discrepancy, data load.
  • Interacts with other agencies and CCD departments (CCCS, DOE, other institutions of higher education).
  • Conduct and attend professional training to maintain program integrity.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Education (Minimum/Required):

  • Associate degree in Business, Education, Social Sciences, Accounting, or a related field.


Experience (Minimum/Required):

  • FAFSA review and needs analysis
  • Verification processing
  • Resolving C-flags, comment codes, and rejected applications
  • Packaging aid and/or awarding
