Scholarship Services at CU Boulder welcomes applications for an Assistant Director of Scholarship Advising & Partnerships!

Scholarship Services is part of Student Financial Services, a unit within the Enrollment Management division, where we support recruitment and student success efforts of the campus by utilizing federal, state, institutional and private funding to maintain access to an education and ensure aid policies support retention, graduation, and diversity goals. The Assistant Director is invested in providing a high level of customer service to scholarship recipients while also nurturing and maintaining community and campus partnerships that support enrollment goals.

This full-time position reports to the Director of Scholarship Services and is responsible for strategic planning and leadership, scholarship advising and programming, internal and external scholarship partnerships, outreach, and other duties as assigned. This position collaborates with the university’s Advancement department, private donors, community and state government organizations, and campus partners. This position maintains a thorough and current working knowledge of all Title IV federal, State of Colorado, and institutional rules, regulations and procedures to ensure accurate release of information and program compliance.

The Office of Scholarship Services is a unit within the Student Financial Services Division of Enrollment Management, working alongside the Office of Financial Aid, and the Bursar’s Office. Our team is responsible for optimizing scholarship resources to enhance affordability and equity for our student population. We work with campus partners and external partners to ensure compliance with scholarship donor intent. We are dedicated to increasing access to higher education and recognizing scholarly merit by facilitating the awarding of scholarships from over 1,100 unique funds. By collaborating with campus and external partners, we empower students to reach their fullest potential as part of the CU community.

Key Responsibilities
Scholarship Advising & Outreach
  • Provide comprehensive scholarship advising services to students, parents, and other partners through multiple modalities, including in-person drop-in advising, appointments, online consultations via Teams or Zoom, and communication through phone and email.
  • Responsible for addressing referrals from other customer service providers to ensure satisfactory outcomes using effective de-escalation methods while maintaining compliance with established policies.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge base of core scholarship administrative information to serve as a resource for Student Financial Services. Provide training and support to staff to ensure effective utilization of this resource, enabling them to deliver accurate and efficient customer service. Actively seek feedback from staff to identify gaps in information and implement improvements to enhance the knowledge base’s effectiveness.
  • Develop and implement scholarship programming to enhance the overall student experience.
  • Coordinate with campus and community partners to organize, attend and present at outreach events.
Program and Partnership Management
  • Nurture and maintain strong community and campus partnerships to support enrollment goals.
  • Collaborate with campus partners including academic departments and advancement to maintain accurate and comprehensive descriptions of scholarship opportunities and their requirements. Ensure that this information is accessible to students and other interested parties through various channels, including online platforms.
  • Collaborate with the university’s Advancement department, private donors, community organizations, and state government entities to enhance scholarship opportunities.
  • Analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of university scholarship programs and make recommendations for continuous improvement and policy enhancement in collaboration with campus partners.
  • Provide statistical reports and analysis regarding scholarship recipients and individual scholarship programs to support ongoing strategic planning, re-engineering, and program management.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining written policies and procedures and for participating in and providing information for internal and external audits.
  • Manage agreements with internal and external constituents.
Supervision and Leadership
  • Lead professional and student staff to ensure advising services to students, parents, and others is being delivered consistently and accurately in accordance with division standards.
  • Ensure that outreach events requested by campus and community partners are staffed and that quality up-to-date information is presented.
  • Lead and inspire staff and student employees to provide exceptional service to students, parents, and other constituents.
  • Set performance management goals with direct reports and provide adequate support and coaching to enhance employee development.
  • Represent the Office of Scholarship Services on Student Financial Services customer service coordination, assessment, and new initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain an inclusive working environment for all staff.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Scholarship Services to contribute to strategic planning initiatives.
  • Provide leadership in the development and execution of scholarship programs that align with university goals.
  • Ensure direct reports develop and maintain written policies and procedures and ensure these documents are kept up to date.
  • Produce annual reports as required by partnership MOUs and internal guidelines.
Scholarship Awarding and Fiscal Oversight
  • Facilitate the selection process to determine scholarship recipients of select funds.
  • Ensure fiscal responsibility in scholarship awarding by supervising staff in adherence to Title IV federal regulations, State of Colorado laws, and institutional policies. This includes overseeing the accurate disbursement of funds, monitoring scholarship budgets, and conducting regular audits and account reconciliation to maintain compliance.
  • Collaborate with financial aid and relevant departments to address any award discrepancies and implement corrective actions as needed.
Professional Development
  • Participate in training seminars, conferences, committee meetings, etc. for professional development in the areas of scholarship management, financial aid, and student affairs.
  • Attend meetings, retreats, campus programing, and committee functions as assigned.
  • Ensure that professional development opportunities are identified for staff and that learning from these opportunities is disseminated.
  • Collaborate with supervisor to determine areas for professional growth and identify and request appropriate training opportunities.

Supervision Exercised and Received: This position reports to the Director of Scholarships and directly supervises 2-3 FTE.
